How engagements work

Consulting has earned its reputation for vague scopes and endless hours. We run differently, on purpose.

Fixed fee, not hourly

Hourly billing rewards slow work. Every engagement is a fixed price attached to a defined outcome, so our incentives point the same direction yours do.

Phased, with go or no-go gates

Work is split into phases with a checkpoint at the end of each one. You see results before you commit to more. Stopping at a gate is a fine outcome, not a failure.

Outcomes, not time

Proposals name the thing you will have when we are done: a trained team, a running outbound system, a working AI workflow. Progress is measured against that, not against hours logged.

Built to hand off

Dependence on a consultant is a design flaw. Documentation and knowledge transfer are built into every phase so your team runs the system without us.

The arc of an engagement

  1. Discovery

    A short, paid discovery phase: interviews, systems review, and a clear map of where the leverage is.

  2. Proposal

    A fixed-price, phased proposal with named outcomes and gates. Clean numbers, no surprises.

  3. Build

    Hands-on delivery inside your tools, with your team in the room. Weekly working sessions, visible progress.

  4. Gate

    At each phase boundary we look at results together and decide: continue, adjust, or stop.

  5. Handoff

    Documentation, training, and a transition plan. You own the system; we stay reachable.

The operator

The operator behind Mycel

Mike Duncan brings a rare combination of enterprise revenue experience and hands-on AI implementation expertise. He has been part of four successful technology exits, including Snowflake's IPO, ServiceNow's IPO, Windsurf's acquisition, and Infocenter's sale to Insight Partners, giving him direct insight into what institutional investors and acquirers expect from a high-performing GTM organization.

He joined Windsurf, one of the leading AI coding tools, in its earliest days, gaining frontline experience in how AI development tools create measurable productivity gains and where enterprise adoption breaks down. Mike has operated at enterprise scale globally, including travelling to ServiceNow offices worldwide to train engineering teams on AI-assisted coding workflows, helping them build effective practices that translate into measurable productivity gains.
